Eastie : Premium Mare from Langholm, Scotland
“Eastie” is our imported mare from Eastlands Stud in Langholm, Scotland. We had the honour of meeting and staying with Eastie’s breeders, Mr. and Mrs. J. Staveley, on our first visit to Scotland as we ventured into the Connemara breed. Eastie is a beautiful 14.1 ¾ hh grey pony with a look that steals your heart. She is a traditional style mare with that big, round, soft looking eye. Her first year and a half was spent in the hills of Scotland, roaming free. When we first met and saw this filly handled we were very impressed with both the handler and pony. Within minutes Mr. Staveley had this filly haltered, walking in hand and standing as if in show! This showed from the beginning what an easy mare she would be to work with. She has competed against horses twice her size and proven that she is just as good - and sometimes better. We are very proud of Eastie and all of her accomplishments.
Eastie's Achievements
In January of 2000, Eastie started her training in dressage. Her trainer, Lori Bell, found her to be very willing and teachable. In her training shows that same summer, she won all her classes with some scores over 70%! She continued to progress and we showed her Basic 3/4 Open level on the Trillium Circuit and one National show. Eastie represented her breed well, and drew attention from owners of the "big warmbloods", for her capabilities in dressage!
Eastie finished the Show season of 2000-2001 with outstanding results on the Western Ontario Trillium Dressage Circuit. She came home with the Basic 3 Open champion, Basic 4 Open champion and finished Overall Ontario champion Basic 3/4, Open Division. Eastie was awarded 10th place ribbon for Year End Awards on the National Show Circuit for the Basic 3/4 Open Division with only participating in one show that season. Not too shabby for a little pony!!
In the Fall of 2002, Eastie was leased out to Andrea Martin from Burlington, Ontario. Under Betty-Jean Hutton's coaching, Andrea and Eastie ventured out to show in the FEI Pony Division. Andrea and Eastie complimented each other as a team and finished Reserve Champions of the season.

In her first year of recognized showing, Eastie was entered into 20 classes and came home with 15 1st place ribbons. In her pre-training year she was entered into 14 classes and came home with 14 1st place ribbons!
